From Carol Buhrmann's e-mail March 29, 2007

"I was shocked by these recent photographs of the Miller House.

As most of you know, the Miller House is an architectural tour de force, a modernist house designed by Le Corbusier protege and former UK Architecture Dean Jose Oubrerie. It is a well known destination for architectural tourism. Kenneth Frampton, the architectural historian, refers to this house as one of the most important American houses of the 20th Century.

Since the death of Bob Miller and sale of the house by his widow Penny Miller, to Chilesworth Development, owned by J. Edward Schneider, the house has been left vacant. The windows have been smashed, the built ins and fabrics on the interior have been vandalized and broken. Perhaps this is an attempt to let the house become so derelict that it is a tear-down and thus less of an obstacle in the development of the property?

This is happening now. Please, use your influence to make a few phone calls to J. Edward Schneider and his associates to secure the house and hopefully to secure the houses future.

This house is one of the most optimistic and progressive visions in Kentucky. For the sake of history and the legacy of the beautiful state of Kentucky, please save the Miller House.

Sincerely,
Carol Buhrmann
Associate Professor of Architecture at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco"
