Location: The Alexander House, 124 Congress Run Road, Wyoming, OH 45215 US When: Saturday, March 28, 10:00AM We toured the home of legendary Cincinnati architect and beloved UC professor James Alexander. This 'growing' house was home to the Alexander family for nearly 60 years. The original two room house was added onto through the years and evolved into this fabulous 4 bedroom family home. Jim's grown children will all be on hand to give tours and reminisce about growing up in this dynamic house on a wooded hillside in Wyoming.
Also we took a self guided driving tour of Congress Run Road, a Cincinnati Landmark Modern Street - with homes by Jim Alexander, Tom Zaugg, Cliff May, Ben Dombar, Terry Boling, and others.
We have copies of the new book "50 from the 50's: Modern Architecture and Interiors in Cincinnati" available for $15, with all proceeds benefiting the preservation of modernism in Cincinnati. The Alexander house is prominently featured in the book.
CF3 and the Cincinnati Preservation Association are asking for volunteers to head up or assist in the CPA's Modern Architecture Oral History Project. If you would like to coordinate or interview the architects, owners and others involved with Cincinnati's rich Modern History please contact Bobbie McTurner, Executive Director, CPA 513-721-4506. |

Hi Everyone- I have gotten several e-mails about this house in the last few weeks (see attached). I believe the asking price is $300,000, but it needs significant restoration. I have requested a link to the actual listing and more info on the neighborhood. Anyway, I wanted to pass it on to the cf3 community and see if Chuck has time to post it to the cf3 website. Sounds like potentially another sad tale….. -Susan Hi Susan... I'm a realtor in the Columbus area and we have an interesting home for sale. It was bulit in 1940 and designed by Ted van Fossen, Tony Smith & Larry Cuneo. Attached is a file with links to some recent articles on the home that featured it locally and nationally. If you have a few minutes, take a look at the Columbus Landmarks Foundation site and the "download" links within the site to additional pics and commentaries from architects. We are looking for a buyer that would be interested in preserving this treasure. Our window to save this home is relatively short. We have received a full price offer from a commercial developer who interests are in the land only and plans to raze the improvements. The owner has extended us a little more time to find a buyer who would restore it... but time is limited. Anyway... if you have some ideas or possibly clients that might have an interest in this property... please let us hear from you. Thanks... Bud Byrne Vannatta Brothers, Realtors

When: May 3rd, 10:00am-12:00pm Where: 458 Hidden Valley Lane, Cincinnati, OH 45215 Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to see architect Benjamin Dombar's masterpiece home "Good Living," the feature home in the February 2008 issue of Cincinnati Magazine. Designed in 1965 for the Runnels family, this very large (5500 sq ft) home has been painstakingly maintained and preserved through the years. Current owners Sherry and Ken Roth are downsizing and have sold the home. They have graciously agreed to one last bash and have invited cf3 members to come witness Good Living, 1965 style!
The house sits on a secluded 2.5 acre setting and is accessed via a very long private driveway. To avoid potential traffic jams, we ask that you park on Hidden Valley Lane and walk the driveway to the house.
