This International Style home dates to 1933, making it among the first modern homes in Cincinnati. Unfortunately original plans were lost due to a 1960s fire in the city's record department, but it's thought a dentist commissioned the home.
You won't want to miss the master bathroom's spitting sink -- a feature promoted at the time by plumbing manufacturers touting measurers to prevent tooth decay -- or the original Vitrolite glass tiles. Other vintage elements include checkerboard Masonite flooring in the living and dining rooms. The home's remodeled kitchen's streamlined style is sympathetic to the modern streamline of the 1930s.
The Nov. 10, 2007 tour was a big success, thanks to Renee and Chris for their hospitality. |

When: Sunday, October 14, 10:00AM
Where: 4405 Riverview Avenue, Middletown, OH 45042 US
Please join us for a cf3 COFFEE CHAT 'EXTRA' that has just been added to our regular schedule of c3's (contemporary coffee chats). Come see this unique Armco Steel Techbuilt House, designed and built by Armco in 1963 as their answer to modular housing for the masses. Only two of these all steel homes were ever built, this one and one in New York state. Not much is known about this house - why were only two built? Was it too expensive? Too modern for the masses? We may never know.
Current owners Noelle and Curt Sparks rescued this neglected piece of history and have gone over every surface (saving what was good and upgrading what was not) and brought the house back to its modern roots. Under Curt's talented designer's eye, this house has finally realized its potential. Located in a lovely mid century neighborhood in Middletown, it is a study in what could have been for suburban America.
Join us for coffee, cider and donuts and be home in time for the Bengals game! |
